Alan Baldwin has a BS, EE from UT and first began doing house plans when he worked for Control Data in Minneapolis. Plans up north have basements, basement plans, split-levels, walkouts, etc. He also did designs for American Homes and Schultz Homes. This was the beginning of what is now 50 years of experience in home designs.
He began Alan Baldwin, Inc. when he moved to Texas in 1972. He built over 200 homes, most of his own design. During this time he was in two Parade of Homes Shows, once in 1975 and again in 1976. In 1986, Alan Baldwin purchased a sailing yacht and sailed from Corpus Christi to St. Thomas, USVI. He stayed for 12 years in which time he designed, secured permits, oversaw and consulted on many luxury vacations homes, short-term rentals, hurricane rebuilds, and many remodeling plans, including two church additions.
The homes in the US Virgin Islands consist of concrete and masonry designs with cisterns, water-catchment roofs, suspended slabs, concrete decks, and cantilever beams.
In 1998 he returned to Austin, Texas and continued designing custom homes and doing remodeling and addition plans. He also did light commercial plans for Donut Shops, Bakeries, Small Office Buildings and tenant finish outs all over Austin.
